Law Firm Makes the Case for Improved Matter Management with New Portal Solution

Business needs

Attorneys often struggle to find all relevant documents and materials for their legal cases. At Hunton & Williams, that struggle included searching document management, financial, and case management systems to gather necessary information. The firm’s portal solution from Plumtree Software acted as a Web interface for viewing the various systems, but it didn’t provide an aggregate view or easy transfer of documents.

To streamline service delivery management and increase efficiency, the firm wanted to provide:

  • An automated, centralized view of data for all offices worldwide.
  • Faster project initiation.
  • Less risk of using incomplete information.
  • Easier integration with Microsoft® Office programs and third-party products.

Solution

Hunton & Williams decided to migrate from the Plumtree portal solution to one based on Microsoft SharePoint® Products and Technologies. The firm used the Relationship Toolkit from Handshake Software to integrate its line-of-business systems into the new portal. Solution components include:

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, which provides attorneys with improved access to all matter related to their cases.
  • Microsoft Windows® SharePoint Services, which enables staff collaboration across the firm.
