Your Digital Transformation Checklist for Success

It's safe to say that digital transformation is no longer a trend but rather a necessity in today's business world. In response, many experts are providing a digital transformation checklist to guide companies through this complex and often challenging process. However, a true digital transformation involves more than modernizing applications and migrating to the cloud. Transformation requires genuine change, which begins with people, the focus of our digital transformation checklist for success.

1. Start at the Top

A true transformation can't occur without leadership. Before any digital transformation strategy is developed, the CEO, CIO, and other decision-makers must embrace innovation, agree on its necessity, and determine specific goals. It's also essential for the team to define the governance framework that defines roles and responsibilities, i.e.,

5. Invest in the Right Tools – and the Right People

There are applications available to help transform every area, but it's essential to consider which department/processes to prioritize.

2. Information management
3. Applications
4. Technology platforms

Find the appropriate, industry-specific software tools for each and ensure they integrate seamlessly. Use SaaS applications to solve your critical business issues where available and use cross-device experiences that will support all major mobile platforms. What about AI? While you may want to take advantage of comprehensive services, infrastructure, and tools to build AI-powered experiences, ensure these include bots that naturally interact with users. People want "human" experiences with bots. Look for AI-powered tools with built-in advanced analytics to make faster predictions.

But let's face it - tools are meaningless without the right talent. Your digital transformation readiness checklist should include a strategy for attracting and maintaining the right people. This is becoming increasingly important as technology becomes more pervasive in every department of your organization. Once you have the talent, ongoing training is critical as technologies evolve.

6. Create a Culture of "Failing Fast"

Let employees know it's safe to make mistakes and "fail fast." Reporting what works and what's not allows the team to reassess and re-tool quickly. Moving fast is imperative because your competition is also acting quickly.

7. Keep the team informed about KPIs

Your digital transformation checklist should include key performance indicators (KPIs) that help the team gauge how well your initiatives work. This allows you to re-calibrate and tweak digital models based on measurable value and performance. Don't keep your KPIs a secret (only available to leadership) – let employees at every level know what the yardstick for success looks like.
